I am trying to get the transparency effects in Windows 11. I have tried and checked these online tips you might see: go to Settings > Personalization > Colors > Transparency Effects Settings > Accessibility > Visual Effects > Transparency Effects. Then make sure you set HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize\EnableTransparency = 1, set HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\UseOLEDTaskbarTransparency = 1, and set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm\ForceEffectMode = 1. But nothing changed (like the taskbar or apps like Calculator) are still fully opaque. (Note: I can get transparency for Terminal but it has its own settings). Because of this, I am wondering if my hardware is just too old to support transparency. Below are the relevant system specs I can think of. Feel free to ask me more info... My computer is actually nine years old, thanks! 😊 If you're being serious, sure, it successfully installed Windows 11 and starts up in about six seconds. It runs Adobe CC Photoshop, Premiere, Autodesk Meshmixer, Android Studio, WSL/WSA... without a problem. So if it can't do some basic transparency effects specifically, I'd honestly be really surprised.
If your computer has old parts and you run Windows 11, problems probably come from the machine itself or Windows just saying stop because it doesn't like the old hardware.
Okay yeah, Win 11 isn't officially backed yet, but it doesn't actually solve the question. Win 11 transparency works exactly like Win 10, and that OS was supported before. I'm hoping someone can tell me something simple like, "Hey you have 128 MB of VRAM, but Windows needs at least 129 MB for this feature," so I know for sure why it won't work. Otherwise, I don't know if it's just a software conflict or something else entirely.
Which gpu driver do I need? Did Intel offer Windows 11 support for my HD 4400?
I think my graphics card is set to Intel HD Graphics. It says that way in Device Manager. I guess I should check if this isn't the case though, because usually it shows up in Windows Update or you can find drivers by clicking "Search automatically."
