I've reviewed what I found regarding my problem. The firmware on my router isn't recognizing my Pi on any of the four available connections. I'm trying to find a fix before needing to return the device. It seems wired connections often don't work with these routers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Cables tend to degrade more often than other components, and Ethernet has undergone numerous updates over time, altering construction methods and connector standards. They’re meant to work backward, but inconsistencies can still arise. The first step is to identify which versions different items reference and confirm the reliability of each part.

I just changed the same hardware except for the router. I had a gateway combo and switched it to a separate modem router. The router indicates a connection light when plugging in something, but no Ethernet connection appears anywhere. The Pi and Ethernet cable function properly on the gateway. EDIT: My Ethernet adapter lacks an IPv4 address—uncertain if that matters. Also, the yellow light next to my Ethernet port on my 3 B+ suggests it’s active.

The difference between IPv4 and IPv6 could be important. You’d need someone who understands Raspberry Pi connections and is comfortable with both protocols to explain it clearly. I don’t have that expertise.
