Noticed these issues before, so I wouldn't have suggested it. (Even though I've used several 1700x tubes (7-10) and never seen it fail.) I kept the liquid metal cooler for about three years on a 1700x with 4Ghz all-core. It left some marks on the cooler plate and IHS, but I could clean them off and the surface stayed smooth. After that, I've been using it again and it's still performing well after two years on a new motherboard, still running smoothly. The only drawback was some staining, but it didn't affect the CPU's operation much. It's hard to compare new IHS with stained or corroded ones, though.

I've been using artic silver for years and it worked well, now I'm trying thermal grizzly because Steve often mentions it, so I thought it might be worth a try.
