Windows is pretty cool with its built-in screenshot feature—it works well and adds real value.

As Oshino Shinobu mentioned the Print Screen key (labeled PrtSc on many keyboards) can do this, but it puts the image on the systems clipboard. This means you'll have to paste the image into MSPaint or another image editor if you want to save it as a file. That said, you can still just paste the image into Discord or whatever after pressing Print Screen Windows also has Snip-n-Sketch built in (the replacement for Snipping Tool), which has become my go-to. You can search for it in the Start Menu, or press Win+Shift+S to just start taking a Snip at any time. After taking a Snip you'll get a pop-up notification you can click to save it as a file, or as with Snipping Tool and Print Screen you can just paste it into an application that supports pasting in images.

It seems the tool halts unexpectedly while you drag it across the screen. I'm unsure if it stops smoothly or freezes. Do you notice a clip of the selected area remaining, or does it crash completely? This happened after a mouse click issue.

Do you understand the grayed-out section when using the shortcut? It doesn’t cover the entire screen or just one monitor, so I can’t begin anywhere outside that limited area. I need to stay within the small zone it shows.

The problem seems linked to varying screen scaling across monitors. In the example, one display was at 100% and another at 125%, but adjusting both to 100% or 125% fixed the issue.
