I attempted to secure my Mac partition on the storage drive, and it’s been taking longer than expected—over three hours. You might want to consider switching to VeraCypt instead.

What is the size of the drive and how much data you're aiming to encrypt? The process may take time depending on the situation. Check the encryption methods used by both providers; they could be similar, so switching might not be necessary.

It depends on the amount of data and whether the Mac uses an SSD or not. You shouldn’t stop the encryption unless you’ve already done so.

I believe 3 hours isn't enough time for 40G. My estimates suggest around 1.5 hours on an i7 with an SSD. What's your processor model?

Are you attempting to secure an external USB drive and have you saved your files?

It's unclear if the data remains after cancellation. You usually set encryption on a blank drive, but transferring data first might be necessary before re-encrypting.

It also relies on the encryption technique (method). Some processes require more time compared to others, especially when I store a drive overnight.
