I also talked to Lenovo regarding the issue, but they gave a vague answer, stating the cable I had wasn’t working and that I should buy an approved one from their site. Considering the money I’ve already spent on this laptop, I’m still hesitant about buying anything else from them right now.
Well, the issue with all the Lenovo models I've checked is that they claim Thunderbolt compatibility, but you must pair a specific power brick with the correct port on the left and connect the other side to monitors or ThunderDocks. I've had to teach users about older versions. I'm not sure if newer ones have updated the connections—some earlier ones worked. The dock likely needed a strong PSU to charge and send signals to displays, while an eGPU wouldn't be able to recharge it.
This situation is really disappointing for Lenovo. I got a better offer from Dell for a comparable setup, and the only reason I didn’t buy that laptop was because it only had one Thunderbolt port. I needed two to connect my peripherals reliably and avoid issues when devices couldn’t find ports. I was expecting Lenovo to deliver the same quality as before, similar to how my previous Lenovo AIO worked—turning into a versatile monitor and computer.
as mentioned, with the right ThunderDock, that supports chargeback, it could work. However, I’ve learned that the device with the tiny socket icon next to the Thunderbolt should be the charger port. In the last ThunderDock 3, I had two charger ports, but only used the smaller one—around 135/170W—and another for 230W, though I’m not sure about that. I don’t remember if I used the rear port for the dock, since I also charged from it. I never needed more than one Thunderbolt device at a time. I plan to look for a hub with a dedicated power supply and test it on my laptop. If it doesn't work, I'll return it to Lenovo since they have a 30-day return policy.
