Hi everyone, I've noticed a persistent Windows icon in my task bar that won't close. I'm trying to figure out what's causing this issue. It seems to appear occasionally, and I'm unsure when it starts. When I click it once, nothing changes, and a right-click brings up only "close all windows." Clicking that doesn't do anything. Any suggestions would be helpful!

First thing to check would be Task Manager. If it has an icon, it should appear in running programs.

I tried, but the sole image available is the one shown in the picture, and there are multiple of these in Task Manager.

You're referring to an issue that should show up in the top section ("Apps") instead of "Background processes." It looks like something unusual might be present there—consider running a malware scan just in case.

No there is nothing odd in the apps section. I know everything that is running there. I'll run a malware check and see if anything comes back.

I tried Malewarebytes but it didn’t work. Also checked Windows Defender, but no results.

I’d shut everything down and just keep working in Task Manager until it disappeared. There must be something causing this. It appears to be a non-standard system tray icon located on the left side of the arrow. For instance, my laptop shows a battery icon made by Lenovo Vantage.

Yea, I am not sure what's causing it. This just started happening the other day. I will continue to keep an eye on it and see if it continues. I'll report back if I figure out what's causing it.
