Based on your situation, you should first confirm whether the files are safe by running another scan with Kaspersky Free Version. If the scan shows no issues, proceed with backing up your data before wiping the drive. You can use built-in tools like Windows Backup or third-party utilities to create a clean copy of your important files.

Do you have an up-to-date backup ready to use?

The files are nearly reaching 500GB and the connection is lagging, but I have an external storage device nearby.

What are you aiming for from the drive? Just a few files? I can boot into a Linux live disk, copy them to another drive, and then scan them.

The drive holds a lot of videos, files—possibly from my dad and mine—and family photos. It’s hard to know where to begin.

Initiate the PC boot process and transfer files to the external drive.

I’m organizing my earlier responses. The drive holds a lot of videos, files from my dad (possibly the reason), and personal photos and videos. I’m unsure where to begin—I’d prefer to save most of it. Since my dad isn’t home, I can’t just remove his files.

Transfer the files to the external HDD, then erase the installation, scan the HDD and re-upload the data.
