I just installed the latest version for Windows 10 and it seems the speech recognition and Cortana aren't working properly now. Even the listening sounds don’t respond. Other microphone functions are fine, including Skype and Google Voice. Can you figure out how to resolve this? Thanks!

You might use Cortana to get quick information, manage tasks, or access personalized assistance on your device.

It seems like he might be hiding as Master Chief... he’d never abandon Cortana.

I appreciate working with any type of helper, regardless of simplicity. Let's make it work!

In settings, go to privacy, then speech, ink, and typing, and verify that speech services and typing suggestions are enabled.

It's active, tried again but it failed. Appreciate the effort.

Verify Cortana's settings. Ensure "Hey Cortana" is active, and confirm everything else. (If active, disable and re-enable as needed.) Review the Privacy section in Windows Settings, focusing on Microphone permissions, and adjust accordingly. (If enabled, turn it off and back on.) Restart your computer afterward.

It performs several interesting functions. I rely on it as a prompt for commuting and tracking packages. I don’t really depend on voice recognition. However, I do use Cortana’s voice recognition in the car to adjust playlists, send texts, or read incoming messages.

Open the Windows troubleshooter. In the start menu search, type "setup mic." You should see "Set up a microphone" listed. Click it. A panel will appear with a loading bar; after completion, you'll have the choice to say Cortana can't hear you. Try it.
