Hello, I recently upgraded my CPU and cooling from an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 with stock cooler to an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X using DeepCool water cooling. After the first couple of weeks everything seemed fine, but then my PC would restart frequently while I was gaming—especially during LoL and OW2. I installed Core Temp to monitor temperatures during games, and the readings stayed below 75/76°C. The idle temperature was around 50°C. I’m wondering if the cooling solution is insufficient or if my power supply isn’t providing enough power. My specs include an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X B450 AORUS ELITE (rev. 1.x), AORUS GeForce GTX 1060 6G, 4x8GB SSD, and two HDDs (Radimax 600W). I suspect the power supply might be the issue, especially since overheating temperatures are common in similar setups. Usually the PSU works fine, but the cooler they received is actually quite poor, as it ends up being powered by 17$ air coolers.
That Raidmax is likely an E-tier PSU, featuring 120-240W for the GPU, 65W+ on the CPU, and multiple SSDs and HDDs powered by a modest 600W unit. You might want to check HWINFO64 for detailed temperature and sensor data, including GPU info. It sounds like one of the rare games with VSync-off or unlocked FPS options.
when the cpu gets too hot, it starts to slow down first, and you don’t feel overheating. the issue is likely with the power supply unit. it can get very warm even when the system isn’t shutting down.
It seems most instability problems would lead to a BSOD, not just a restart. The PSU should be the issue.
