The system fails when power is saved and restored.
I’m facing instability and visual problems with my PC during specific situations: when the screen powers down and restarts, it occasionally crashes. Activating the profile buttons on my Samsung G9 Neo can cause the display to become black and lose connection. When I power off the system via the Windows 11 interface, it sometimes jumps back into the BIOS instead of continuing normally.
System details: Asus RTX 4090 Strix OC Ryzen 7800X3D MSI X670E Tomahawk (BIOS v1.E0 with AGESA Combo 1.2.0.0a) 6000MHz CL30 DDR5 RAM, 1000W 80+ Gold power supply (FSP Hydro), Windows 11 24H2, Samsung G9 Neo 49" (DP) plus Samsung CHG70 (DP/HDMI).
Issues observed: Windows Event Viewer shows errors (Event ID 14 and 153). The messages aren’t found, suggesting possible installation problems or corrupted files.
What I’ve tried: Cleaned and reinstalled NVIDIA drivers using DDU, reattached GPU and PSU cables, cleaned gold contacts, removed the USB hub between the G9 Neo and PC, reset the GPU to defaults, adjusted display connections, switched the CHG70 cable to HDMI, changed display cables, and modified BIOS settings (SOC voltage 1.2V, CPU voltage curve). Also disabled hardware acceleration in Windows 11.
Still experiencing crashes and display glitches. Any suggestions or guidance would be helpful!
Have you checked your curve? Did you adjust your memory settings? The system isn’t working well, which is causing your driver to crash.
I don't experience crashes under any circumstances. These games work perfectly for me. I've been testing these configurations for extended periods using CoreCycler, y-cruncher, 3DMark, and Furmark. Currently, I'm running loser timings with the standard EXPO and a lower curve. Appreciate the feedback!
I experienced a comparable problem with one of my 4070tis during its initial installation. It turned out to be a manufacturing flaw that led to complications when operating at reduced power settings. I received an RMA and never faced the issue again. This wasn't the case except during unstable overclocks on the GPU.
I checked my recall once more, as recommended. It seems to display correctly in Windows. Beginning: Later:
I work with TM5, using the Absolut or Extreme settings, and there is no swap file involved.
So there's an update. I might be on to something. I have deactivated Process Lasso from startup and turned off Idle Saver mode to prevent my power plan from switching when the PC is idle. I removed the second USB hub from the CHG70, which previously connected my old Android tablet that acts as a stream deck using TouchPortal. I connected the tablet directly to the PC via the motherboard's USB ports on the back. So far, there have been no crashes or issues when waking up from idle state or sleeping displays. As a result, I can now hear the "G-Sync compatible device is connected" notification from Nvidia without any crashes. Tomorrow morning, I plan to test the idle saver or power saving mode to determine if the issue reoccurs. The PC has never crashed within 5-10 minutes; it typically crashes after being idle for some time with the display asleep.
Running the PC overnight caused no crashes. The screen shut down automatically, but I could restart it and keep working in Windows without problems. The issue appears only when power-saving mode is active or when Process Lasso’s Idle Saver is turned on.
I addressed the problem again by updating the latest BIOS on my motherboard. Removed any overclocking settings, using only the 4 EXPO values and leaving others auto. RAM voltages were set to 1.360V. The GPU stayed at default values. I experienced crashes into a black screen in Marvel Rivals, with fans spinning rapidly—this hasn't happened before after the BIOS update. I reached out to ASUS support for guidance based on crash logs and dumps. I also gathered minidump files and debugged them. It appears the issue relates to GPU or RAM access/management. Attached files are included for reference. CrashDumps.zip
It seems the problem was related to a driver issue with Nvidia. The hotfix driver 566.36 didn’t cause any issues. I removed the older drivers and the Nvidia app, switched the PCI-E gen version to Gen4 in the X670E BIOS, and since then everything is working fine without waking up from the display.
