Hey everyone, I’m reaching out about a really confusing problem I’m facing with my RX 6800 XT. I got it second-hand a few months back and kept it in great shape, even downclocking it for extra life. It worked perfectly until recently. A couple weeks ago, when I tried to turn it on, the motherboard showed a VGA error and didn’t recognize the card. I replaced it with my old GTX 1060 to check—my old card worked fine. There were no signs of overheating or damage, just normal operation. After a short while, it started working again, stayed stable for a few days, but then suddenly went black during a video. I thought maybe the card was dead, but the GPU itself still had lights and functioned properly. I’m worried this might be a lost chance—I’m not sure what’s causing it or if I should give up on this second-hand purchase. PC specs: motherboard ASUS B450-F, CPU R7 3700X, 32GB GDDR6, Corsair RAM at 3600MHz, ADATA 500GB M.2 SSD, PSU Thermaltake Toughpower 750W. Updated April 21, 2023 by Jeremy Holden
I faced a comparable problem with a 3080 as well, then my new 7900XTX too. It seems the card's "sag/move" feature in the slot eventually fails to make proper contact and restarts whenever it's reinserted. I suspect the damage to the PCie latch during moving the 3080 might have contributed to this issue.
The motherboard is actually brand new and i installed the card with the case laying down and it still shows this issue so unfortunately no luck with this.
