For those just starting with memory upgrades, I discovered that swapping in XMP kits can prevent POST errors on many MSI boards. To fix it, I had to take out the new kit, put the old one back, erase the XMP profile using the previous setup, power down, and then install the new kit again. Once done, I could turn XMP back on. Back then, swapping memory was a completely different story—XMP didn’t exist yet, so you had to learn from experience.

Typically XMP turns off automatically when you switch out components, which suggests a BIOS issue rather than a hardware problem. Also, resetting the CMOS can resolve the issue if XMP isn’t handling it on its own.

Clearing the CMOS happens regularly whenever you modify, delete, or replace memory. These internal timing registers must be updated or adjusted. Only by doing this can you ensure proper operation.
