I accidentally left my PC running while formatting a hard drive during a thunderstorm. Suddenly there was a loud pop and it stopped working. I checked the PC and saw it was off. I thought the sound came from the power supply unit, so I unplugged it and took out the PSU. I looked at the motherboard for any damage but found nothing. I connected a different 250-watt PSU, but it didn’t power on. Could my motherboard be damaged? It seems my CPU and RAM might be faulty. I managed to save the components, and the GPU and HDD worked fine. However, my USB Wi-Fi dongle was broken—it overheated and melted the port when I tried to use it in another computer. I can’t test the CPU or RAM now.

System Specs: Core i7 870, 8GB DDR3, dual channel, 500GB, Seagate Sata HDD GTX 1050TI

Is it on the back of the PCB or could it have knocked the CPU out, maybe even the GPU? Who knows.
