Running 100Mb Ethernet between your desktop and laptop consistently, regardless of settings—1080p or 720p, any encoding method. Performance remains steady but suffers from blocky visuals, color issues, and stuttering. Both machines are up-to-date with Windows 10, though the laptop uses a GTX 880M and an I7-4910QM. When streaming, your desktop handles only about 3–4MB of data, which raises questions about potential bottlenecks on your end. If you're curious why you'd prefer streaming with a laptop setup, it's likely due to the cooler environment—just want comfort without heat. Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you own a decent router? A solid one is essential for a great streaming session. Look into PCgamer's buying guide for gaming routers. With an 880M in your laptop, you might be fine without needing anything else.

I relied heavily on steam streaming before installing the new system. The receiving machine ran a Pentium D with 4 GB RAM and a network speed of up to 10MB/s. The sending side used an i3-4150 with 4GB RAM (GTX 750) and a gigabit Ethernet link. The router limited throughput to 100MB/s. The display was 1440x900, and I consistently maintained 60FPS across all games without trouble. I’m puzzled by the issue since even my wireless HTPC with a Phenom 9100e managed streaming (though it occasionally stuttered). My main thought is that your hardware might be overheating or throttling under load.

The router isn’t perfect, but it should handle file transfers smoothly on your local network. Streaming feels slow—around 3-4MBs—and while the laptop can manage, it gets hot quickly at around 38°C. You’d prefer a cooler environment, so consider using the AC to keep things comfortable.

It's not due to thermal throttling. I typically use 5760x1080, but my laptop only supports 1920x1080. The performance drop means the GPU isn't fully utilized and the CPU isn't reaching its maximum speed, so it's working hard without overheating.

You’re trying to reduce the resolution from 5760x1080 to a standard 1080p display. It’s unusual to go from higher to lower, but you might want to switch to just one monitor to test.

I use this on my desktop, but when I try to stream, I set it to 1920x1080. Don’t worry, that’s not an issue.

That's the last thing that came to mind, wasn't it?

That’s my initial idea, but why would I be able to move files up to 50-60MBs while streaming gets interrupted at 5MBs? I’m hoping to upgrade my router later, which might affect this.

I'm curious if Steam has any configuration option affecting performance or quality. Since I can't see your setup, you might want to adjust router settings to prioritize the stream.
