I'm experiencing some issues with my PC's performance and health. Recently, the Windows logo animation stopped working properly—it didn't display correctly before, and now it only shows after a few days. At first, I thought it was a one-time problem, but it has become regular. Before the animation started, there was an odd behavior: the blinking line would just keep blinking without booting into the OS. Only when I pressed DEL twice did it begin loading normally (pressing delete might have been a coincidence). This happened only once before it worked fine afterward. I attempted a system restore using two images—one from two days ago and one from five days ago—but both failed, showing an error message on the desktop after the OS booted. There was also a recent Windows update labeled as "critical," so I wondered if that might be related. Everything seems to be functioning otherwise, but I'm not sure what's causing this. Please help me figure out the issue.
Are you experiencing unusual behavior beyond the current issue? I recommend performing a thorough scan using Malwarebytes and AdwCleaners, which you can download from the links provided. Additionally, run a cleanup with JunkFiles using Ccleaner at the specified URL. The latest Windows update has improved my boot time by a few seconds. Also, keep an eye on your forums for further discussions.
I use avast! Antivirus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and CCleaner. I performed a brief check on each tool and cleared everything in CCleaner. I intend to conduct more thorough and extended scans later when I’m not using my PC, especially if any issues are found.
I noticed your profile mentions an 840 EVO drive. Some of these units, like mine, are showing slower read speeds when accessing older files, which might be related. This issue appeared after a recent fix in the latest patch. Try installing SSDReadSpeedTester and test your read performance. (See first post) http://www.overclock.net/t/1512915/read-...ected-ssds If it bothers you, consider using DiskFresh to clean the drive or wait for Samsung’s next update, which is coming soon.
Download the file, extract it to a directory, and launch the program from the previous message. It will process all files on the system, providing a graph showing the average read speed once complete. A screenshot of the results will be saved in the extracted folder. This example comes from one of your SSDs. The average read speed is 227MB/s, which is typical for a SATA 3 connection—aim for around 540MB/s for optimal performance. Share your findings here.
Appreciate your assistance! I’ll still run an SSD speed test as recommended by @VirtualNinja just to confirm. Thanks again!
I completed several detailed checks: a comprehensive Malwarebytes scan, an Avast full system analysis, and an Avast startup inspection. Everything is back to normal now—the system boots more quickly and the animations finish rapidly after launch.

It’s great to hear you’ve resolved the issue. To be honest, Avast is quite problematic—I’ve lost track of how many PCs or laptops I’ve had to wipe clean after installing it. Microsoft Security Essentials is a much better free antivirus option. Personally, I’m using Kaspersky Pure; I’ve been on it for two years now, switching from Kaspersky IS before that. This is my fourth year with Kaspersky, and nothing has managed to breach any of my three PCs. Please share your SSD results once you’re done.
