The start button functions intermittently.
Recently, I attempted to launch a program from the start menu, but it didn't appear after clicking. The Windows logo seemed to fade slightly when I clicked, indicating mouse interaction. After a restart, the start menu functioned properly once more, though briefly. Shortly afterward, it ceased working again. I tried restarting Windows Explorer, but the start menu only reactivated temporarily. Later, I realized the Action Center was also missing (the notification area on the right). The rest of my system appeared normal. Task Manager was operational, Windows Defender reported no threats, and a scan with Malwarebytes showed no malicious activity. I suspect the issue relates to Windows Explorer, as it resolved when I restarted it. I’m unsure how to pinpoint the exact cause or restore functionality. My experience is unusual—search results often focus on users whose start menu didn’t work at all. If you have any insights or solutions, please share. Thank you!
Recent Windows 10 updates have led to some problems, so it might be worth investigating if they're the reason.
I understand the need for updates. Please try to refresh the system, wait a moment, and then everything should function properly.
I'm running version 1607, and I haven't updated my system in over a year. It seems the update isn't the issue. This version has worked well for me, so I didn’t bother updating. Downloading updates is tough because they take time and my internet isn’t reliable, often causing failures. Microsoft does provide offline updates—you can download them with a manager and install them manually if needed.
Yesterday the start button suddenly worked perfectly again. It was as if it had fixed itself on its own. Looking more closely, it seemed the issue was actually that the button became very slow—after clicking a few times and waiting a couple of minutes, it appeared. I’m not sure what triggered that change, but I’m relieved it’s now functioning properly!
