I would remove the old drive prior to the repair just to confirm the 980 is the boot drive.

The 98o is the previous model. I borrowed it from my older PC, which is slower than my current laptop, so I don’t plan to use it anymore. Instead, I want my laptop to run the 980 as it was when I used Windows on my old PC without needing a format.

It's surprising how often people overlook this simple method. You can easily set up an EFI partition using DiskPart and retrieve the boot files in a single command.
