i thought the monitor head had the aux port for connecting devices, but then i saw it's actually meant to plug in anything...
You probably need to alter a Windows setting. Background: there never has been any way to send the sound output from a mobo audio chip or from an added sound card to a graphics output card. So IF you have a graphics card to feed your monitor (NOT from an HDMI port on the mobo's rear panel) that graphics card actually has its own sound chip on it so it can send sound out of its HDMI port along with the video. Now, that means you have at least two possible Audio Output Devices - one on your mobo, and another on your video card. Maybe even a third. But no matter how many, Windows can only use ONE of them at a time, so YOU have to tell it which one. On the search window at bottom left type sound settings and click on the choice. The first part of the window lists all the possible sound output devices you have and one will be highlighted - probably the Realtek system on you rmobo. Look for a device named like your VIDEO card and choose that, then back out. Try something that makes sound now and see if it comes out of the monitor. You can go back to that Sound Settings window any time and change it.
