Looking into CPU choices and compact builds, I'm considering smaller form factors. The Threadripper lineup is mostly EATX, but there might be options like the ITX or MATX Trx40 that fit into a tight setup. I need an Intel Xeon E4 4.0 with PCIe 4.0 support and a minimum of one M.2 slot.
The tiniest Threadripper I've seen is the X399M Taichi. It's different from the TRX40 and won't work with 3rd generation Threadripper. However, it can handle 1st and 2nd generation models—though the 2nd might need a BIOS update, and the board supports BIOS flashback. https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X399M Taichi/index.asp It seems it's no longer in production.
