I recorded a Win+L key press, went out to run some tasks, and returned to notice my CPU fan running unusually loudly. When I logged back in, I saw the CPU speed spike and high usage, but after logging in it automatically reduced to normal levels. Could this be related to a virus? I haven’t installed anything suspicious that I remember.
Maybe it’s better to let the system rest instead of forcing it to hibernate. The background processes and Windows handle the logging automatically, even when you’re not using the computer. MSI Afterburner records data while the machine is off because it captures system events without requiring active input.
These can be background tasks. If you launch Task Manager/Processes and tap CPU to reveal peak usage, close it. Once your PC is idle for a short time, reopen Task Manager and the suspicious process will appear briefly at the top. You need to act fast. For me, it was Gaming Services from XBox since I’m using a Microsoft account.
Checked variations and disabling the sign-out seems to terminate every app. I’ll rely on the sleep feature instead. The locking option works mainly in office settings, but since it keeps background processes active, it might affect services like Windows Update.
