Current configuration listed below. Intel Xeon E3-1225 v2 running at 3.2 GHz with 4 cores/4 threads CPU on ASRock B75M board. MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Gaming graphics card paired with 4GB DDR3 RAM at 1600 MHz. 480 GB APS-SL3 SATA SSD and a 1 TB HDD for storage. Power setup includes a 9 500 W PSU and a Cooler Master T20 cooler. While the Xeon seems to limit performance during gaming, I’m considering a newer CPU that can keep up with the GPU without bottlenecking. I might opt for a budget model around $100, possibly from Intel or AMD (preferably Ryzen), 4 cores, and whether HT/SMT matters depends on how much it affects my games. My needs are mainly casual gaming and some video editing/3D work. The upgrade could involve swapping the motherboard or just replacing the CPU if possible. I’m just trying to find the most affordable option that still avoids bottlenecks. Appreciate your help!

The 12100F could damage that Xeon, but a four-core setup isn’t great, so going with the 12400F would be better. You’ll likely find good prices on used models.

The most affordable and reliable current budget processor is the 12100, a solid choice for gaming. The 12400 comes next, but in Indonesia prices seem similar enough that I’d opt for the 12400 as well. My RX 6800 XT doesn’t use the 12400 more than 60%, except for the Spider-Man remastered with RT on ofc version. It’s unlikely you’ll find a used 12100 or 12400 right now, since I’ve searched many online marketplaces. Be careful too—some listings show a different CPU model underneath, so authenticity matters. You might consider a used 5600X instead. When Ryzen 7000 models drop, some users sell their older 5600X or similar CPUs, though the next big releases tend to come later than in the US.

You could stick with a single-core setup at 4.6-4.8GHz and keep the voltage between 1.3-1.4V for better performance. The CEZANNE chipset gives great IMC, though it won’t fit in a daisy-chained top board. Aim for 2400DDR4 RAM (like Samsung K4A8G085WD or similar) and set the speed to 3600MHz with TRCD TRP 16-19-19. Adjust everything automatically; it’s straightforward and low-effort. For a top-tier build, expect a maximum of 4200-4400 MHz if you go with 32GB RAM, but memory overclocking still brings marginal gains. I'm actually taking a look at the i3-12100F lately, honestly it's a pretty strong CPU. Sadly, finding any used Alder Lake options is tough, and... the price tag here is just too steep. If I had to choose between new and used, I'd go for something like the 10105F, but honestly secondhand Ryzen seems more appealing given the value. I'm flexible on brands as long as it's affordable. Ideally, I could swap out my current setup—keep the motherboard and RAM—and get an i7-3770 or E3-1270 v2. That would make sense. Still aware that my current system is pretty outdated by today's standards, so I'd probably settle for a CPU from the 2018-2019 era or newer like Ryzen or Intel 9-10th gen. Considering my income situation (you get what you pay for), I wouldn't push too hard on Ryzen 5 models either... But thanks for the tips on AMD gear and your suggestions!

Just a note, an i3 12100 works fine right now. But once the PS4 and Xbox One are out of the picture, that 8B core won’t be able to keep up. It’s making me think it’s better to accept some single-core slowdown while getting a 12-thread CPU like the 5500 or similar.
