Recently, videos highlighting their content have gained significant attention, sparking discussions about whether the shaderpack uses ray tracing. The homepage of Sonic Ether's website explains PTGI as "an experimental version of SEUS that features a fully custom software-based ray tracing implementation that doesn't depend on an RTX graphics card."

Path tracing represents another approach within ray tracing. It offers reduced accuracy and higher resolution for rays, yet it can still replicate physically realistic lighting phenomena to some extent (such as GI, AO, reflections, etc.)
