Didn't realize yesterday was Patch Tuesday. My main gaming PC got updates today. Once done, the start menu stopped working. I restarted the PC but nothing changed. I tried removing the patches one by one to check the effect. The first patch (kb4571756) worked after uninstalling it; the start menu returned. Now I'm worried it might come back later and I'll face the same issue again. Can I prevent it, though? Blocking it would stop future updates, which isn't ideal unless I switch to a newer OS eventually.

Find the "Windows Update Mini Tool" by Stupid User. It lets you pick updates manually and lets you hide selected updates permanently. https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details...itool.html

Are you experiencing the same problem? I was planning to update when I came across this thread.

I'll test it on one of my VMs and will update you. Microsoft hasn't mentioned any known problems with the update so far, especially regarding the start menu.

I've made updates to two systems so far. One operates normally, the other encounters an issue. The likely cause is the limited sample size. It might be anything. Edit: I noticed the system that worked was from 1909, while the problematic one is from 2004.

You've noticed some problems with the Start menu on your PC, but it's hard to pinpoint the exact issue yet.

Completed work on a VM without problems with the start menu—just some minor issues early on. Usually hold off on updates for a month to ensure fixes are applied beforehand.

The start menu has been damaged by a significant update before. In 2004 there are serious problems with certain edge cases when moving from 1909 to 2004 and also from 2004 to 2009. The safest approach is to perform the manual update using the Windows Download Tool instead of relying on WU. Still, I usually wait 2-3 months after a major release, since it often causes issues.
