Hey everyone, I've noticed some folks mentioning similar problems over the years. My setup includes a 3080 TI paired with two Asus PG279Q monitors, a 9900K with only XMP enabled, and an 850-watt EVGA PSU. None of these have triggered the issue on my end. The problem appears to occur specifically when launching games from the menu or during play—my second monitor briefly goes black for a short time, lasting about half a second. It doesn’t cause a shutdown, just a quick blackout. This happens mostly after waking the PC from sleep and starting a game, though it can also happen sporadically. The issue isn’t linked to Windows or browsing; it’s confined to gaming sessions.

I’ve tried several fixes: updated DDU drivers multiple times, rolled back to version 472.12, replaced cables, swapped monitors, disabled GSync, turned off full-screen optimization, and even reinstalled the 3080 FE. Still nothing. The 850W PSU seems sufficient since it doesn’t crash or stop. If anyone else is experiencing this, please let me know—it might be a broader concern. Thanks for your help!

The basic troubleshooting involves at least briefly disabling XMP. Does this action still achieve the same result?

Thank you for the update. Disabled XMP and it seemed to fix the issue, but the display still flickered during gameplay. It wasn’t the same as before the loading screen appeared.

It might be due to memory cards or the motherboard, probably the memory sticks or the motherboard. The CPU seems less likely, though it could happen. A PSU problem would likely cause the whole system to stop. Edited April 4, 2022 by Bombastinator

I ran memtest86 the previous night. The free edition performs just four tests, yet it succeeded. Now testing it again while I'm at work.

Memtest offers better performance than the built-in utility and is sufficient to make improbable results possible. It isn't flawless, but the chances of success are low enough that removing memtest86+ should prompt checking other methods first. For cheaper alternatives, consider diving into winRE, performing a chkdsk scan, and trying additional steps. Edited April 4, 2022 by Bombastinator

Memtest completed another successful run. I plan to configure my other PC using the 3080 with these monitors to check for similar problems. It might be related to the motherboard and CPU combination. My system runs a 9900k on an ASUS Maximus X Hero, which uses a Z370 board. While it supports the 9900k, it wasn’t available at launch. I’m curious if this could explain the issue since the 9900k and the 3080 are quite close in terms of specs. The problem might have occurred without my knowledge.

I configured my second machine with the 3080 to match the monitors, and the flickering occurred there too. It happened identically when I had the 3080 on the primary setup. It takes some time in-game before it appears, but eventually it does. Edit: The second system runs Windows 11 while the main rig uses Windows 10. It’s using a gigabyte z390 with my 8700k. The only comparable part would be the NVIDIA drivers.
