A comparable issue occurred with me; closing Cortana in Task Manager resolved it. Apologies if this was mentioned elsewhere.

Keep your computer running all night with it powered on (turn it off only when you intend to sleep). You likely have many files to organize. This issue arose because instant search needed to work. The system would try to index the new setup, but it couldn't locate everything. Users assumed the search engine was broken, even though it wasn't actually failing—it just missed indexing files after a period of inactivity. Now, in Windows 10, it informs you that indexing is happening.

It should be fine to index your entire C drive after rebuilding the index. Just ensure you exclude any areas you don’t want included by default.

It doesn't process fast unless there are very few files. Windows usually doesn't show progress until you have a specific message in Windows 10. The more files you add, the slower the search becomes and the longer it takes. If you often look for DLLs or system files, include them. Otherwise, stick to documents, files, and useful items you can run. Your account should only contain your Start Menu folder, shared folders, and personal directories. Outlook adds email info, Windows adds history, offline files, and sticky notes by default—keep or remove as needed. If you don't use them, they remain empty without loss. I just noted you might be able to trigger the index update. In the search box, type "action" and choose "View recommended actions to keep Windows running smoothly." Then go to the panel, expand "maintenance," and click "Start maintenance."

The process would examine around 5000 files and indicate completion under a similar number. Maintenance is currently active, and I’ll update you once it’s done. Appreciate your support thus far!

I left the repair tool active while I was away, and now it's still working after I returned. I restarted my computer, but the issue remains.
