My laptop uses DNS servers 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 (Cloudflare). But when connecting to my school network, internet service halts. They have a Fortiguard Webfilter DNS filter in place. Possible reasons could be filtering traffic or misconfiguration. Check if the filter is blocking necessary domains or adjust settings temporarily.

They restrict all content except Google's DNS, so you might as well keep it that way. You could attempt contacting IT or an administrator, though I question their willingness to make changes.

They are either intercepting every DNS request and permitting only their own DNS operations, or they are completely blocking Cloudflare DNS. We can't assist further because bypassing the restrictions imposed by your school, employer, or parents isn't permitted on these forums.

It's frustrating. Fortiguard Webfilter uses DNS filtering, which makes sense from a security standpoint, but it feels unnecessary. There should be alternatives I can explore. Since I have admin rights on all the school computers, I might be able to investigate further.

It seems like you're expressing frustration about restrictions on privacy tools. There are no options available that would let you bypass these controls without violating policies.

Unless you can connect to the server managing DHCP and modify its DNS settings, it won't work. Also, don't interfere with anything someone has carefully configured—it's there for a purpose, to prevent unauthorized actions and protect both you and the network.

It appears a firewall rule is preventing external DNS access. The suggestion about DHCP won't function properly, as it would assign an inactive DNS server. You need to permit UDP/53 traffic to 1.1.1.1. Many organizations restrict external DNS services. Schools typically rely on internal DNS for systems like printers and web pages.

You can request your school's IT team to adjust the firewall settings so that only their DNS is blocked while all other DNS traffic is routed through theirs. However, they might not respond easily.

Additionally, consider enabling DNS over HTTPS and using Firefox, which automatically activates it. By default, it relies on Cloudflare.
