I needed to purchase a school laptop for $1600, which wasn’t very affordable. When I got home to set up Chrome, they told me I couldn’t download anything via an exploiter—this wasn’t a big problem, so I used a USB drive to install it on another computer and then transferred it to this one. After installing Chrome, it asked for admin rights, but I didn’t have the password, so I chose to skip it and proceed. When I tried to install Skype from another PC, it also required admin access, so I had to skip that too; otherwise, it wouldn’t work. The issue really stood out when they said we could install any programs without trouble. My concern is how to give my user account admin rights without exposing the admin account. Also, keep in mind the school uses Active Directory for network profiles—this solution must function there as well.

The laptop belongs to you, not the school. You may contact the store where you purchased it for the admin password.

It isn't a viable choice because it needs to link to the school network for educational tasks.

I’d have taken my own, but at least it’s an i5 with 8GB RAM and a 120GB SSD, along with Photoshop and plenty of other programs.

Could you explain why you spent $1,600 on a laptop and what you expect from it?

They wouldn't allow it because there were no power outlets or switches available, and the setup wasn't portable enough for a classroom environment.

Switch to dual boot. Remove the damaged side of the hard drive so only the necessary files remain, then reinstall both OSes on the remaining partition. Note: 120GB may not fit two operating systems well; consider a Linux USB drive instead.

Because it was made mandatory, they told us we'd receive admin privileges, but they were lying.
