Hey there, sorry for the delayed response. I didn’t manage to fix it all. I ended up with 32 gigabytes and handed the rest to my girlfriend—she’s using it with her old 3700x, which handles 64 gigabytes nicely. It seems like the only option is to replace the 2x16GB sticks with two 32GB modules and limit usage to just two of the four RAM slots.
I faced problems with the initial processor not detecting the memory. A friend provided me with a 3000-series CPU, which functioned perfectly at full capacity. That confirmed the original chip was defective.
