Hello, as mentioned in the title, I aimed to swap my 5950x with a 5800x3D so I could use it elsewhere. When I attempted the exchange, it wouldn’t boot properly. It consistently displayed Error Code 99 and showed no image output. I reused the 5950x on the same board, and it worked again. All other components functioned normally.

My motherboard is an x570 Aorus XTREME rev.1.1 with BIOS version F35, CMOS cleared. The graphics card is an RTX 4900 FE, RAM includes TridentZ Neo 4x 32GB at 3600MHz CL16 (Product Number: F4-3600C16Q-128GTZN). The CPU cooler is be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, the PSU is Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1650W, and the display is a generic HDMI monitor on a TN panel.

Thermal paste was applied to the CPU, but it seems to accumulate over time, especially after removing the cooler. I noticed black spots on the IHS of the 5800x3D during boot attempts. A photo of the CPU is attached for reference. I’m concerned the 5800x3D might be faulty or damaged. There are also visible issues with the front panel and no USB devices connected. The XMP profile was deactivated after CMOS cleared.

After reseating the 5800x3D, it still didn’t work. I’m worried about the device and have been trying it all day—now it’s around 3 AM. Please help, I’m really anxious. My text might be a bit unclear due to language barriers, but I’m trying my best. Thank you!

My bio is on version F35. I assumed it was the latest, but I tried using the Gigabyte tool for an update. It seems the update didn't work, so I'm planning to uninstall Gigabyte and check for a newer release.

F35 arrived in January 2022, prior to the 5800x3D release. For F36D, opt for F36A or newer. Avoid relying on update tools for BIOS and similar tasks—do them manually to save time.

Thank you for your assistance. I used the Gigabyte Software to update the BIOS, following the instructions to fetch the latest version from the download servers. The servers provided the old BIOS file and installed it on the motherboard. Since I had previously updated my system, I assumed the issue wasn’t with my BIOS, which took me about 10 hours. Later, I manually downloaded the new BIOS and installed it myself. It now works properly. Your help was very timely. I only checked the BIOS because you gave me the details, and I initially believed F35 was the latest release since the software downloaded it.
