I've been considering getting a 5000 series Ryzen APU, probably the 5600x or 5700x. I have a 5600x and managed to boost all cores to 4.65Ghz with a -25 curve optimizer. Could I achieve something comparable with these APUs? And can the curve optimization and PBO be tweaked similarly?
That's not technically overclocking. It's undervolting and allowing the CPU to boost higher with more power and thermal headroom. As far as actual overclocking goes, no modern CPU overclocks well, at least without exotic cooling and usually removal of power and safety limits. As we've pushed the limits of silicon there's just not extra headroom like there used to be. Yes, the APUs can also be undervolted and have PBO available. Though, why are you considering these CPUs? The 5700G at best matches the performance of the 5600X, and the 5600G is worse. The only benefit is having an iGPU. If you're running a 5600X, you obviously already have a dedicated GPU, so any APU would be a downgrade all around.
You're correct. It was about undervolting and adjusting those settings. I have a 1650 Super with a 5600x that I plan to move to another system and sell. I'm not playing games anymore, so I thought a 5600g/5700g would be enough.
