I received some serious trouble with my 7900 XTX on May 3rd. After turning it off, I tried everything—switched in the CPU cooler, removed the GPU, and even powered it back on—but smoke came out of the VRM area. It looks like the GPU may have damaged the motherboard. I plan to contact ASUS for a repair request.

You activated the system without the CPU cooler and suspect the GPU caused the motherboard failure. The issue might lie with the operator. Could you provide the complete system specifications? Also, were the graphics drivers installed prior to adding the new GPU?

It seems your CPU might have overheated because you didn't use a cooling solution.

It was just about ten seconds, and taking out the CPU cooler was the final action I took.

Right now I'm running fine without a CPU cooler for testing. I was much more cautious about my setup.

They took out both the CPU cooler and the GPU. It seems some mysterious 5G connection caused the GPU to shut down the motherboard. The reason? Logic or a big brain decided otherwise.

I spent an hour troubleshooting it, but the last section is what I’m focusing on now—just relax. It might have been a false alarm; I tried it once more and it turned on and booted unexpectedly. I’m also using a different power supply.

Did you attempt to replace thermal paste with thermal pads? They don’t work the same way and aren’t a direct swap.
