Hello, I recently switched on the BIOS switch for my RTX 5090 Astral OC while keeping the card unplugged. When playing games, it doesn’t draw more than 430-450 watts, but on Heaven Bench it reached up to 480 watts, which is unusual. On Furmark, it was using all 600 watts, which seems odd. My monitor is set to 1440p and I’ve overclocked it to 3000MHz. The PSU I’m using is a Corsair 1000W RXMX or similar, and I’m powering the card through an adapter. My CPU is a 9800X3D Ryzen. Thanks.

My PSU is Corsair 1000W RXMX or similar, using an adapter to power the card. Remove the side panels from the case and check the labeled sides of the PSU. How long has the PSU been in use? I recently installed the RTX 5090 Astral OC with the BIOS switch activated while the card wasn't connected. What BIOS setting was it using? If you were using a GPU before, which one were you working with? Did you run DDU before changing the GPU?

My PSU is on the side, making it hard to see its date without removing it. I bought it in July 2023. I changed the switch to the right position; before that, I had an RTX 4090 and used DDU, but not in safe mode since there’s a bug. In safe mode it asks for a password and sometimes says it’s wrong even though I use it every day to log in.

Compare the benchmark that employs ray tracing and tensor cores along with the shaders. Heaven is older and relies solely on the shaders. A game may not utilize all components simultaneously. Is the performance lower than comparable systems with a 5090?

All are using it for 4k but I don’t have a 4k monitor yet, so I’m not sure. However, one person on YouTube stress tested his 5090 on Heaven benchmark and he reached 600w. I’ve copied their settings and my own, and mine reaches a maximum of 480w while still getting a higher 4k score, which doesn’t really make sense.

Do you have cyberpunk? Running it with pathtracing will push 500w+ even at 1080p. Ensure there are no FPS limiters, as unlimiting will let the card perform better. As mentioned before, avoid the Quiet vBIOS setting since it restricts power output. The vBIOS switch should be set to the left for P Mode.

Launch a game and configure it for high-quality sampling. It supports running any game at 4K via the Nvidia control panel, after which downsampling adjusts to your desired resolution.

I’ll attempt it, are you certain it should be on the left instead of the right?
At 4k it would draw 600w, does that indicate a limitation?

I wouldn't be concerned about getting stuck, but yes. If the GPU is fully used, then you'd see higher FPS, up to a certain point, with a stronger card, though currently there aren't any options.
