i possess an asrock z790 pg sonic with the rtx 4070 super not fitting in the top PCIe lane, but it fits the one below. the unusual part is that my gtx 1080 runs smoothly. my current setup includes an intel core i5-14600k processor, a deepcool ak620 cooler, the arock z790 pg sonic motherboard (bios 11.12), and the msi rtx 4070 super with ram. the psu is a cooler master mwe 850 gold white, paired with a samsung 980 m.2 ssd, one 1tb drive, two sata drives, and four fans. recently i discovered it might be an unlisted playlist affecting the top slot.

I haven't tried resetting the CMOS yet. Would you like me to do it for you?

Use a 99% IPA spray to clean the top slot, let it dry within an hour or two, then gently wipe the GPU PCIe connector. If this doesn't resolve the issue, consider replacing the RAM board.

Have you considered manually adjusting the PCIe Generation for that port on the board rather than leaving it auto? A friend encountered a similar issue with a 30 series card on a Z690 board, suggesting the system was attempting to negotiate Gen 5 but failing.

The difference is that resetting CMOS keeps your device settings intact, while resetting to default erases everything, including settings. You mentioned you did the latter, so it cleared all data.

I changed the motherboard to the ASRock Z790 PG Lightning and everything is working fine now. It was a quick fix.
