Hi there. I’m part of a Danish firm that builds and designs large sailing yachts. We use B&G’s marine navigation gear, which runs on Ethernet. Our network setup includes a D-link LTE router, an Ethernet switch, and a touchscreen terminal. The issue arises when connecting the Sonarhub; the router stops working and all data drops. After installing OpenWRT, the problem disappears. Other routers with their original firmware still behave this way. We rely on the D-link because B&G’s own routers are no longer being produced. How can I identify the cause of this problem? And if anyone has experience, how might I resolve it? Thanks in advance.

the sonarhub is using original firmware without a dhcp server. having two dhcp servers isn't likely to crash the network, but it might misassign devices and leave them unconnected. the lte router seems to be nat-enabled or assigning public ip addresses. if it's giving out public ip, the sonar hub could cause a broadcast issue if not properly set up. if everything else checks out, consider swapping the ethernet ports first, as poor connections might cause flapping and openwrt could adjust speed to hide it.

It appears there may be a compatibility problem between Sonarhub and D-link LTE routers. I don’t have details on solutions, but you might reach out to B&G support for advice. You could also experiment with other compatible devices like Simrad or Lowrance 1 2.

The router functions as a DHCP server while Sonarhub acts as the client. It seems unrelated to the cable issue, as other vessels experiencing the same problem.
