The right hand fan on the graphics card rotates and halts every 4 or 5 seconds?
Hello everyone, I have a MSI GTX 970 Gaming X OC GPU.
I began to observe a problem during cold bootups—one of the fans makes a loud grrrrr noise for about five minutes, after which it stops. Recently, I noticed another fan (the black one without red plastic) starts and stops every four seconds while the other continues spinning steadily. I attempted to adjust the fan curve using Afterburner, but it didn’t help control the GPU fans. Can someone assist me?
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! One of the fans makes a loud noise for about five minutes then it stops. It seems the fan is nearing the end of its lifespan, maybe due to dirt blocking its rotation or worn bearings inside the motor. Try replacing the fan and see if it improves your experience.

Why does one fan spin and then stop every few seconds, especially in cold boots, and produce sound even when the temperature isn’t yet high enough? This behavior happens consistently, not just at 40s or 50s, but also around 59-60 degrees. The issue seems to occur automatically. I checked by gently pressing the problematic fan during its spinning and stopping phases; it didn’t stop completely, but continued moving slowly. After adjusting its position, it spun more smoothly than before. The other fan still works fine without any pressure. It might indicate a loose part inside that needs attention.
I obtained that card about four months ago after selling a 580 2048sp and added some extra money because I was annoyed with the amd drivers. I plan to keep it for a while, maybe replace the fans once they start failing completely. Right now everything seems fine, but I’m sure I’ll swap them out then.
It will definitely be replaced eventually once the fan can no longer match the other one's performance.
Ofcourse is fine, but not in my case because I faced the problem in my 40s when I gently pushed the fan's center. This stopped it from spinning continuously and then stopping. Since the fans are old, I plan to order new ones later. Can you recommend software that allows precise control of fans? Also, the burner doesn’t seem to work for them—even if I set the fan speed to 100%, they still run at their normal speed.
