The RGB fan remote is no longer functioning.
Recently my RGB remote stopped functioning unexpectedly. I'm using Coolmoon fans with their own RGB fan hub from Aliexpress, which are affordable yet effective. I used the remote to switch colors but it suddenly ceased working. The hub powers all fans and a RGB strip, and the remote itself still operates—pressing the button lights up the infrared sensor. I've only changed the remote battery without success. What else should I try? Could the hub or remote be faulty? Or should I attempt another battery change? I'd prefer not to rush to replace the hub or remote since shipping is slow. Right now, I'm uncertain if the issue lies with the fan hub or the remote itself. Are there any ways to reset either device?
My guess is the module inside the remote (or the receiver), since they are usually made using the cheapest shits without any kind of long term protection for the components. Kinda common issue with cheap IR remote. Had one or two before that I barely use, and it broke. After that I learned to keep some in stock, pretty cheap anyway. Well... at least the remote+receiver set for standard led strip is. If you have another battery, may as well try, not like you'll lose anything. Try putting the remote close to the receiver as well.
They likely just added the standard receiver/controller module into the hub and connected it with wires. It’s possible they built a custom PCB combining all parts. If it’s a universal remote + receiver set, you might be able to use other remotes. If they went all out, it probably wasn’t that simple. I haven’t tried it myself—usually the receiver or remote fails quickly, so changing one part often means changing another.
Thanks for sharing the photos. It seems my setup matches yours closely, especially with the PCB housing sensitive buttons and the LED. Coolmoon offers a variety of RGB products, but their generic controllers and remotes might look similar to others. I've noticed some hubs and remotes with different labels. The fan hub has a single connector hole I don’t use, which I tried to remove hoping it would clear dust, but wasn’t successful. It looks like the hub is still functional since all connectors work and the RGB lights up, though I’m unsure about the receiver module. I think it might be the remote, so I reached out to the original seller to see if a replacement is possible—either just the remote or both. Thanks for your support so far!
Could the power supply unit be the reason for this problem? I experience the same issue. My setup allows me to adjust colors by turning off or on the PC, though it requires some effort. I’m using a 450w PSU.
