Long ago (perhaps in April) I began to observe that games would start running smoothly until a sudden lag would occur. The display would freeze and the frames per second would plummet from 60 to 100+ before returning to normal. This only lasted a brief moment or two, then everything resumed. It would happen randomly—sometimes every few minutes, other times less frequently. At first I assumed it was due to my 970 drive failing, but after swapping it in July with a 3070ti it persisted. The issue appeared in any game and occasionally even during web browsing. I considered the possibility that my old SSD or SSHD was deteriorating because they were around seven years old. I replaced both, yet the problem continued. However, I’ve tested and found it doesn’t occur without SATA drives installed (my C: drive is an M.2). I’ve double-checked all drivers; the GPU driver is up to date, Windows is current, temperatures stay below 70°C, and my case has nine fans with proper intake and exhaust vents plus a 360mm AIO cooler. I updated the BIOS. Asus offers a SATA driver update, but it seems limited to RAID setups since the installation prompts me to enable SATA RAID in BIOS. I’m still unsure if this is the root cause and would greatly value any help. I’d prefer not to risk sending the board back for replacement, especially after ten months of ownership.
