Hello, I own an Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G with 8GB RAM total (4GB soldered, 4GB in slot). The maximum capacity is 20GB, so I recently added an 16GB module after confirming it fits the requirements. Currently, I have 20GB active in Flex Mode (CPU reports dual channel). My concern is the performance drop noticed before and after the upgrade. In PassMark PerformanceTest, Memory Write improved slightly but Database Operations declined noticeably. UserBenchMark showed a significant decrease: scores fell from 62.2% to 44.3%, especially on multi-core and single-core tests, with higher memory latency observed during testing. I suspect the issue isn't with the CPU timings, as they appear normal in CPU Z. Before purchasing the new RAM, I double-checked all components to ensure compatibility. Anyone know why this upgrade hurt performance? Is it due to the dual-channel configuration or something else? Can I adjust settings to reduce the gap? Please share your Before-After results for clarity. Thanks!

consider using cinebench with your previous RAM and the new one to compare performance. keep in mind that the first 8GB will likely run in dual-channel mode, while the remaining space uses single-channel, which can affect speed. If you exceed 8GB usage, it might not be common, so the speed difference may not be noticeable.

This might be due to running dual channel asynchronously, which can struggle with full performance if both sticks aren't fully loaded. My laptop has 8 GB plus 4 GB of DDR4 memory, and it seems to handle dual channel asynchronously on my motherboard. I did notice a noticeable improvement in gaming performance when using an APU with the dedicated GPU, but frame rates and usage didn’t change much except during VRChat. That’s just my guess based on how I mixed RAM before.

It could be due to insufficient RAM speed installation.

The problem isn't with the speed; it depends on RAM or the motherboard/CPU performance.
