Hey there! I just installed a new RAM kit and attempted to overclock it. But now, whenever I try to increase the frequency, it keeps saying it's still at 2133Mhz even though it's set to 3000Mhz. Anyone know why this might happen? I'm using HWInfo and CPUZ to monitor my RAM speeds. I'm hoping for some guidance here.
Greetings, Finn.

The ram should function properly out of the box at 3000MHz, though many boards lack the necessary tables or PCIe buss support. While most have a 266Hz base (2133, 2400, 2666, 2933MHz, etc.), 3000MHz is a 200Hz base and only a few boards accommodate it. The BIOS cannot handle 3000MHz, so revert to the previous stable configuration. Adjust the Xmp profile and manually set the speed to 2933MHz.

Neither of these methods works. You need to manually increase the frequency and use both XMP profiles.

is it not keeping the oc or did it fail the oc and go back to the low speed?

The ram should function out of the box at 3000MHz, but many boards lack the necessary tables or PCIe buss support. Each board typically has a 266Hz base (2133, 2400, 2666, 2933MHz, etc.), while 3000MHz is a 200Hz base, and only certain boards accommodate it. The bios cannot handle 3000MHz, so reverting to the previous stable configuration is recommended. Adjust the Xmp profile and manually set the speed to 2933MHz.

The maximum speed will depend on your 2000 series processor and the motherboard.
Here is the ram support qvl list:
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450M-PR...ort-mem-14
I believe 2666 is the optimal setting.
If you wish, consider raising the ram voltage slightly above standard.
