The RAM fails to operate at its intended speeds on the Ryzen 7 2700X?
I have an ASUS ROG B450-F with an R7 2700x and just upgraded to 16GB of Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro RAM rated at 3000mhz.
I understand that it starts at 2133, so I've attempted overclocking using the D.O.C.P detected by the motherboard, which is 15-15-17-36.
With the D.O.C.P, it keeps looping until it returns to BIOS, so I've tried adjusting my timings and memory speeds manually.
Currently, I've shared on Windows with 2933mhz and 20-20-20-42, which I believe is pushing the limits given the RAM ratings...
My concern is why the system is being so strict with my RAM? Am I doing something incorrectly? D.O.C.P should function properly. Should...
Run Thaiphoon Burner first to obtain your RAM details via the READ button. Use the information from Thaiphoon Burner to complete the Left Column on the DRAM Calculator (remember 2700x is a Zen+ Processor). Then press the R-XMP button at the bottom and click the Calculate Safe settings Button.
Is the CPU running at an overclock? If you're attempting to use DOCP alongside a 4.2ghz overclock, that's likely the problem. Consider reverting to the standard settings.
If it remains stock, check for any recent BIOS updates.
I experimented with solo OCing the RAM before re-OCing the CPU, managed to reach base clocks without success on DOCP, but achieved 2866. I'm only satisfied with 3000mhz and am trying to understand why the system isn't accepting a preset RAM clock configuration.
The model isn't included in the ASUS QVL for our motherboard:
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/...-Q...essors.pdf
This could mean it might not run at full speed.
CMU16GX4M2C3000C15 (Ver4.31) appears on the list but doesn't match your model:
CMW16GGX4M2C3000C15
I suggest trying a speed of 2933 or 2800 and checking if it works, or returning for a kit that's confirmed to be in the QVL so you can ensure proper performance.
Download the DRAM Calculator for Ryzen from the provided links.
For safe settings at 2933 Mhz, use the READ button in Thaiphoon Burner to access the DRAM calculator.
The recommended BIOS for upgrading 2000 series CPUs and RAM on our machine is version 1201 (AGESA 1.0.06).
More recent BIOS versions are less stable with 2000 series CPUs and don't support OC RAM as effectively.
This DRAM calculator seems a bit perplexing, isn't it? What exactly are you trying to find?
