The QuestionWHEA-Logger 18 is designed to record data when you are actively playing one particular game.
I keep getting my computer stuck and restarting all by itself since I first started playing Monster Hunter Wilds. It happens often during beta testing or just randomly while I play. The screen goes black, everything freezes, and it reboots quickly. Sometimes the black screen stays for a long time or even 2 hours, but most crashes happen around minutes 20 to 40 of gameplay, sometimes going up to 30 minutes. Before I bought this game, there was only one other title (Marvel Rivals) with the same problem, and it only happened once in 280 hours.
I found a few strange errors in my computer logs. One is WHEA-Logger 18, which has 32 errors. The second error comes from OneCore-DeviceAssociationService 3503, and there are 103 of those errors. I know one Core is the problem because it's showing more frequent errors, but I don't know if that specific service causes the other issues or just gets worse.
I haven't touched my motherboard settings like overclocking since buying this PC two years ago. My CPU, GPU, and memory are all less than a year old. When I run Windows Driver Verifier, it crashes me right away with a blue screen saying SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED caused by ntoskrnl.exe. That error message doesn't tell much because it's just a Windows process.
My RAM sticks have been tested individually and in different slots. They seem fine based on those tests. I also tried upgrading my power supply from a 550W Bronze to an RM750x Gold, which helped the game run stably for longer periods without stuttering or black screens. I changed drivers too, switching from AMD Adrenalin to AMD Pro drivers and updating both Windows and graphics drivers completely.
In my BIOS settings, I disabled things like C-State Control, Core Performance Boost, PBO, PPT, TDC, and EDC limits along with the XMP profile. I also tried lowering the CPU voltage using a setting called Dynamic Vcore (DVID) to -1 while increasing VCORE SOC to 1. For my GPU, I used AMD Adrenalin and PRO software to lower the graphics clock speed to 2700MHz and reduced memory power limits.
I set the PBO2 Tuner core offset to -30 or -20 on all cores, but nothing changed during a stress test. Since I don't know how much voltage my CPU needs, I'm afraid to raise it too high because I already lost my old RX 580 years ago and want to avoid another failure.
I think the problem is most likely with the CPU itself, even though I can't confirm that. It might also be a game issue because so many people have had trouble with stability in this title. But given how bad the Driver Verifier test was, I feel like it's actually a hardware fault and not just the game's bugs.
Hey new user here! Look at this post: Rise Mode X4 Glass Black link in the original text... Is this your PC? I'm wondering if you get cooler temperatures when you take off that front part of the case? What kind of fans are running inside it now? Did you update your BIOS to version F68d (I don't remember what came before, but it was probably F65)? After updating, did you reset the CMOS memory? Normally, I suggest unplugging the power and turning off the computer, taking out the battery, holding down the button for 30 seconds to let all electricity drain away, then putting the battery back in after waiting a full hour. Did you upgrade your drivers or change Windows even though it was already installed? Maybe you moved from Windows 10 to 11 by using the built-in upgrade path? If that's true, I'd recommend reinstalling Windows 11 and making sure to create a fresh USB installer for it instead of just adding it. I tried increasing your CPU voltage, but on my 5700X3D, there isn't really any way to do that without breaking things. That isn't the right way to handle Ryzen processors; you should use the Curve Optimizer tool from Ryzen Master to see if it helps reduce power usage and lower temperatures instead. Honestly, I think this is mostly a problem with your CPU itself, even though I'm not an expert enough to be sure. Anyway, since we can't see your PCPartPicker link easily (it's blocked), what cooling setup are you using for the processor? It could also just be that the game isn't playing optimally, which explains why some people had stability issues before too. Yes, that makes sense. Regarding your memory: You have two sticks of Corsair Vengeance LPX (1 x 8GB) running at DDR4-2400 with timings CL 15 and CL 16. Could you tell me more about this? Are you buying these two pieces at different times, like from different stores or on different occasions? If so, checking their board revisions might help. Just by the way, your computer setup is losing performance compared to what it could do better with dual channel memory running at DDR4-3200MHz instead of just 2400MHz.
Thanks for responding. Yes, that's the correct case. I haven't done this temp check, but based on HWINFO's log, temps are normal. Besides, I've played other demanding games for much longer without issues, including Dragon's Dogma 2, another poorly optimized game that share's a lot of DNA with MH: Wilds (Same engine, open world, and other similar features). As for the fans, I use two of these cheap ones (120mm, 7 blades, up to 1200 RPM and 36 CFM). One in the front, and the other in the back, with the cooler in the middle, all in the correct side for proper airflow. I didn't clear CMOS immediately after, but I did check and it said F68d. When I did clear the CMOS, I just unplugged everything, turned off the PSU, removed it and left it out for around 2 minutes before putting it back. When I booted into the BIOS, it confirmed that the setting had been reset. Something worth mentioning: after reading your post, I went to check the BIOS to double check the version, and it once again said that the configuration had been reset. I did the CMOS thing 2 days ago, and yesterday installed a new cooler, but didn't touch the CMOS. Maybe I didn't put it back properly? I installed it from Windows 10 using a bootable USB installer, although it was online. That's the thing, this particular model (5700X3D) doesn't have Curve Optimizer on the BIOS or Ryzen Master, PBO2 Tuner is the only way of undervolting. This lock is the same as the 5800X3D model. Sorry about that, just made it public. As for the cooler, I just got a new one yesterday. Went from a 5 year old Deepcool Gammaxx 300R to a Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 . Yes, I have 2 RAMS. One I have since 2020, the other one I got a few months ago. Just checked the PCB revisions and yes, they're different. The older one is v. 4.32 , while the newer one is v. 5.38 . I'll be checking some new RAM, since maybe the lower clock speed and different PCB could explain the fact that this issue seems mostly exclusive to MH: Wilds. Also, as mentioned earlier, this happened once in Marvel Rivals, and I recall it being during the exact moment I used a specific ability, Dr. Strange's Portal, which does what you think it does, and is very notorious for how it eats everyone's framerate, especially during cast. You think a Corsair LPX (2x16GB) 3600MHz would be a good upgrade? Pretty good deal it seems, considering the 3200 kits are currently more expensive (for 32GB dual channel).
I got a Corsair LPX with 2x16GB and 3600MHz, but the problem keeps coming back after putting them in the right slots on my motherboard. It reboots about every 30 minutes even when I turned X.M.P. on. I also tried raising the CPU voltage to 1.1V, but that setting isn't available in Ryzen Master software and there are no other voltage options in the BIOS. My only option is to lower Dynamic VCore (DVID), which I've already tested, and raise VCore SOC.
