Possible causes:
1) Corrupt or missing files or drivers
-Windows up to date?
-Motherboard drivers updated? *Can be found on the board manufacturer's website.
-Have you verified the integrity of the game files through Steam? *To find it, right-click the game in the library, click Properties, then click the local files tab.
-Run a scan of your Windows files. Link: Using System File Checker
2) Virus or other malicious software
-Have you run a virus scan lately?
-This program is pretty good at finding nasties. Link: https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/adwcleaner
3) Bad ram, or combination of
-12GBs isn't a normal configuration. If any of the sticks were sold as a pair, then just use those 2 in the slots required by the motherboard for dual channel mode.
-If they’re all mismatched, then use only one, and test the game with each to see if the crash can be reproduced.
My existing RAM is from a prebuilt PC. Considering replacing it with the 8GB module available at [https://store.hp.com/CanadaStore/Merch/P...lang=en-CA], should I proceed?
It was packaged as such. Test the game with the 4GB stick first, then with the 8GB one, attempting to reproduce the error. If faulty motherboard slots are suspected, test in different slots. If the system still crashes after these attempts, proceed with the other steps previously described.
Yes, I reinstalled Windows. This does not occur in any other games and I have a 250 GB SSD and 1 TB hard drive.
Go to the Start menu and click on Settings. Type Performance. Choose Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows. In the new window, go to the Advanced tab and under the Virtual memory section, click on Change. At the bottom of the new window, check what the Recommended value is and how it compares to Currently allocated. If the current setting is significantly less than the recommended, uncheck the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives box at the top of the same window and then click on Custom size. Enter the Recommended value in the Initial Size box, and a larger figure - 10GBs, maybe? You might have to try the full 12 you currently have if it doesn't work in the Maximum size box. Click OK to save the new settings
