I will attempt this... I plan to disconnect my GPU from the monitor. I have an HDMI cable from the computer to the monitor for iGPU. This morning, when trying to start it, I used the keyboard and it worked. It came up, but the mouse wasn't responding. The task bar appeared at the bottom. I could press cntrl + alt + del... and the Task Manager was visible at the bottom of the task bar, but not on the screen itself. Curious.
I checked Reliability History this morning and noticed it only shows "windows not properly shutdown" when I pressed the restart button.
I notice a high frequency of Device Setup Manager errors in the Event Viewer, occurring almost every minute. These issues include:
Metadata staging failed, result=0x80070490 for container '{F813F412-299E-11EF-A645-18C04D88BA68}' – it seems a device is attempting setup but failing, starting at midnight.
Additionally, there is a Secure Boot update failure with the message: "Secure Boot is not enabled on this machine." For details, refer to the provided link.
Check Task Manager under Startup for any unknown processes launching at boot.
Also examine the Task Scheduler for triggers based on time or processes that start/stop.
Run "dism" and "sfc /scannow".
Refer to the provided links for repair guidance.
Always back up important data at least twice, storing copies away from the affected system.
Make sure backups are both recoverable and readable.
I think I focused on the GPU and likely the driver. Following your advice, I unplugged the GPU HDMI from the monitor and it started up without problems. Then I reconnected the HDMI to the GPU slot on the back of the PC... but the screen froze again. Haha! Should I reinstall drivers for the RTX 3060 or roll back some updates?
I would use DDU to delete your existing drivers and set up the latest one for your card.
Here is a brief guide if you're not sure how to proceed.
I think I might proceed, though it remains challenging to resolve. There are many sources offering different advice.
I think the power plan plays a role—when switching to "high performance," it works, but in balanced mode it doesn’t.
Some recommend adjusting advanced settings during the switch, selecting PCI Express and Link State Power Management, then turning OFF.
I attempted this and was able to open certain items in the bottom taskbar, though they didn’t appear on the main screen (see attached).
Some suggest checking drivers in Device Manager:
1. Open Start, search for "Device Manager," open it.
2. Look for Intel Management Engine Interface.
3. Right-click and choose Properties.
4. Go to the Power Management tab.
5. Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
6. Restart and verify if the problem continues.
Also, try disabling Fast Startup by following these steps:
1. Open Start, search for "Control Panel," open it.
2. Navigate to Power Options.
3. Select "Choose what the power buttons do."
4. Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable."
5. Under "Shutdown Settings," uncheck the box for "Fast Startup" and click OK.
6. Restart and check again.
