I’m used to a GPU without coil whine, so I haven’t really experienced it. The sounds that can come with it aren’t always pleasant—they’re more like a buzzing or humming noise. Right now I’m testing a 6700 XT card, and sometimes it makes a faint buzzing, especially when the system is under stress. It doesn’t always happen consistently, and it sounds a bit like electrical interference. I wasn’t sure if the fans were the problem, but after checking them with Afterburner they seem fine. Could coil whine actually be a buzz rather than a whine?

Yes, that's coil whine. It happens when the electrical parts move physically and produces various noises.

Typical. Coil whine varies based on the specific task it handles. Generally, faster frame rates produce more higher-pitched noise, though this isn't consistent in every situation.

Start the old game, reduce the graphics settings, disable vsync or any frame limiter, and you'll notice the difference.
