The question gaming pc is having a heart attack.
Hi, long time gamer here who just joined today to ask this question because nothing like this has ever happened in my life building gaming computers. I built this rig back in 2020 and have upgraded it many times with a new GPU and more RAM. It ran super fine until one day right before my eyes it shut down completely. At first I thought maybe Windows updated itself, so I just left the computer sitting there. Then later tried to turn it on and nothing came on at all.
I did this whole bunch of checks: I tested the power supply with a tester, then bought a brand new one and new cables. I checked different power sources like flat outlets and different sockets. I took out every single peripheral, RAM stick, and GPU. I even took the CPU and cooler apart and reapplied some thermal paste to it.
I cleaned everything up really well because the dust was everywhere inside the case. I looked closely at the motherboard pins to see if they were bent or damaged (they weren't), but I didn't do that on the CPU pins and socket either since all of those looked fine too. I haven't tried replacing the whole motherboard yet because I don't have one lying around right now, and they are really expensive.
I was thinking about just buying a brand new motherboard, CPU, and case to use with other parts, but before spending money on that I wanted to know what exactly caused this problem and if it can actually be fixed? It never gave any signs that the PC was failing or did anything wrong! Honestly, really weird...
I am wondering if high humidity could have been the cause. When I moved into a new flat near the beach, the air there is very humid—over 70 percent in some places—and there was mold on the walls and ceiling. I fixed that humidity issue now, but my PC died just one month after moving in! Could something like high humidity or mold have caused this?
Sure. I have an i5-10400F CPU with the Arctic Freezer 34 cooler, running on a MSI MAG B460M Mortar motherboard in Blackout. It uses Patriot Viper DDR4 RAM and has two sticks of 8GB each. The GPU is a Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3060 Ti, while the case features Tecware Forge M ARGB mini tower fans with a Corsair TX550M power supply rated for 80+ Gold efficiency.
Do you see any sign of life? Like an LED light or a fan spinning? What if you flip the power switch pins on the board while holding the new PSU and all its wires (but no old ones)? If doing this still shows nothing, it means the motherboard is bad.
I see nothing but silence, no buzz from the fans, and no glow in the wires. It is totally flat-out dead. I haven't even gotten my hands on those jumper pins yet, so what could I possibly try there?
To fix this on your motherboard, look for the two wires labeled "power" (or "pwr"). Connect these two wires together using a piece of wire that conducts electricity. Just make sure you do it right and don't leave anything disconnected when you're done.
