The browser "DuckDuckGo" saves "0 byte" files in your download folder because it detects them as empty or placeholder content.

1) Operating system is updated
2) Duckduck go appears current
3) I don’t understand why Duckduckgo selected the download folder (it wasn’t requested), but that’s where a downloaded file should be.
4) Among 13 files in my download folder, 9 were opened simultaneously, 2 more at the same time, and the last 2 at different times. I have a screenshot but couldn’t attach it to my post.
5) C:/thispc/downloads/GLWphj-Z . . . 6/12/2025 . . . 1:53pm . . . HTM File . . . 0 KB
6) I wasn’t sure I’d noticed the “0 byte” files last week while searching for another download I made then.
7) Just a few pictures and a few apps, none of which caused issues.
It seems DuckduckGo manages timing and location automatically without any of my input. They just show up!
Thanks for your response, Eto12

I have been placing ESET on all my clients' devices since 2006, and they have never encountered any problems!

Verify DuckDuckGo's present download directory: it might now point to the default path or been altered by an application.
Photos/screenshots are available on Imgur (www.imgur.com > green "New post" icon).
Review Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer for any error codes, warnings, or logs near the times of the "0 byte" downloads.
Inspect Task Manager and Task Scheduler for any unfamiliar or unexpected programs launching at startup or after booting.
