To truly excel, you must possess someone who surpasses you; otherwise, you remain merely average, neither exceptional nor lacking.

I admit it, Ryzen is taking the lead right now. I purchased the 10980XE about eight months back for a fair price and it matches the 5950X well. At this point they’re almost the same cost, so I don’t expect much change. Still, in the long run my next processor will likely be from Ryzen.

Being an intel victim means it's all about adapting quickly. Next year you're likely moving to a 5950x + 6900xt setup.

Well then next year things might change again, right? I think Alder Lake could really make a difference. I probably don’t need an upgrade unless AMD or Intel comes out with something at least 20% faster for gaming. Otherwise, I’m not too interested.

I am using an i9 10900k and feel let down by the AMD CPUs, which only offer minor improvements in certain games. I was expecting a more substantial upgrade but it won’t match this generation. For productivity, I rely on the GPU for video editing, so my Intel CPUs aren’t a problem. If I were building a new system now without time constraints, I’d choose the 5900x on a Hero board, costing the same as an i9 build. I’m hoping next year’s upgrade to an i7 8086k will provide better gaming options.

You're wondering what else you should get?

This version still feels fresh, right? The goal is to surpass Intel’s gaming performance, even a small edge. It makes sense for those on the 7th or 8th generation, but once you move to the 9th or 10th, you won’t see enough improvement in gameplay.

I’d love a decent reason to try them out. I’m curious about how older games perform without much GPU power. It’s expensive to test these, but it could be enjoyable. The 30-series GPUs are coming soon, so next year will be the time to decide whether to buy one.

The goal of Intel is to compete by maintaining low prices and encouraging innovation. It also has the opportunity to serve as a premium gaming option due to AMD's recent price increase.
