My computer speakers ceased functioning, so I powered it down and adjusted its position to reattach the 3.5mm jack plug. Still, the PC failed to start. Additionally, the AC has been out for several days, leaving the room excessively hot. The computer is completely unresponsive, with no fans activating when the power button is pressed. I connected a power supply tester, which displayed green readings except for the 12V showing yellow and the -5V having no lights at all. The PSU tester and paperclip test managed to activate the PSU fan, but the PC fans remain off. Any suggestions on what could be causing this issue?
What are the full system specifications? Specifically, what is the make and model of the power supply unit, or its part number? How recent is the PSU, and was it purchased new, used, or refurbished? The original model appears to be outdated, possibly obsolete, as a failing PSU can cause significant damage to your equipment.
I connected another testing device that showed accurate voltage readings, yet the equipment remained inactive. I then used a replacement power supply, which matched the original but was new, and the computer started working again. It appears replacing the power supply resolved the issue, but if the previous one was faulty, why did the test indicate it was fine? Could a power supply correctly display voltage levels but still fail under load?
More akin to in-spec voltages without any load, yet failure occurs when a load is applied. In a comparable way; if the car runs well, just because the engine starts. But without actually performing the test drive.
