Hi, welcome back as a newcomer to the community. I've been playing PC games for years and always had an Alienware that I got for a good deal with an 850w PSU—it's never caused any issues. Now I'm upgrading and my new graphics card won't fit in the case, so I'm building a whole new system. I plan to do some conservative overclocking initially and then expand from there. With a budget of about 60-80 quid, I've found two options: Thermaltake Smart 700w and EVGA BQ 850w. I'm wondering if the 700w will be sufficient. I've never run with less than 850w during overclocking before, so I don't have much experience. Also, does anyone know what others think about these PSUs? Are they a good value?

don't even consider the thermaltake psu.
the evga bq works okay but isn't perfect.
i'd recommend if you can, grab an evga supernova g2/g3, corsair rm, or a seasonic focus/focus plus gold. at least 650 watts should suffice for your setup, though having more headroom like 750w would be better. but if you manage to find one with solid warranty coverage, it's fine.
you could also look into the thermaltake toughpower—they're decent, some models are really good, and i think the cougar gx-f is a solid budget pick. just opt for 650w or 750w versions.

Thanks for your response and following your link was really helpful as well. I’m planning to save up for the extra time and aim for an RM 750w because it looks like the best mix of budget, power capacity, quality, and availability in my area. Plus, it offers a small advantage over earlier options by being modular. Updated since the RM 750 is currently on sale nearby and I needed to share this good news. 😀
Thanks again, that really helps!
